The demonic fel green core hounds are also known as fel beasts or fel core hounds. A core hound has the appearance of a massive dog with one or two heads, with a mouth filled with rows of flaming teeth. Its body is covered with armored hide and the head is studded with bony spikes. A streak of flames runs down its spine from head to stubby tail. The oldest and most powerful of the core hounds is Magmadar , the alpha male and sire of the entire current pack.
Every core hound can trace their lineage back to Magmadar. Core hounds originate from the Firelands of the Elemental Plane , however, they also lived alongside their master Ragnaros in the Molten Core and recently started to invade Mount Hyjal.
The largest is known is Magmadar , and Golemagg the Incinerator seems to treat them as pets. There is also a small captured one in upper Blackrock Spire known as the Beast , who has swallowed gnome explorer Pip Quickwit. Core hound hide called [ Core Leather ] can be used to fashion armor and bags. A [ Core Hound Pup ] is mailed out to the first character to logon on accounts that have a Blizzard Authenticator or Blizzard Mobile Authenticator [6] attached, including accounts that are attached to an authenticator in the future.
It represents the authenticator as being the "guard dog" of your account. Core Hounds are a family of exotic Ferocity pets , only tamable by Beast Mastery hunters starting at level This makes them a good choice in raids when player-provided buffs such as [ Bloodlust ] , [ Heroism ] or [ Time Warp ] are not available.
They retain their signature roar when tamed, though the loudest is Chromaggus. However, other beasts lore-wise not related to core hounds also count toward this pet family:.
Core hound in the Monster Guide. But it was worth it, its so cute and fluffy. And what level is Magmadar when you teme him? Comment by I think.. Comment by Now with all pets at the same Damage, HP, and Armour, its just a question of which one you like best and the abillity it has.
Comment by Bite is melee range and Lava Breath is 30 yard range. Comment by I just solo tamed him on a lvl70 hunter. I stacked as much stamina gear as I could find in the auction house. I didn't pay any attention to any other stat but stamina. I wound up with about 13k unbuffed when I was done. Use the videos of people soloing the tame as a guide, they are very good and will get you through this.
I waited until I was past the aggro point of the first two mobs outside the lava, but before the core hound's ledge, to take a moment and buff up. It's a good idea to target the core hound that moves onto the ledge as soon as possible so that you don't have to move around to do it.
Once I was buffed, I waited for him to start coming down from the ledge. He will hit a point where he's within tame range, but still around that bend.
As soon as you see him hit tame range, pop a Potion of Speed Haste for 15 seconds , this brought my tame-pet down to I pulled him with tame pet alone. He didn't break tame, and I was left with just over 1k hp when I was done. Make sure you've brought meat for him! EDIT: I should mention that taming him is not easy. Then it took about 2 hours of trial and error before finally succeeding. The hardest part, I found, is getting your timing just right.
Sometimes I couldn't make it past the mobs on the side of the lava. Another time I waited too long and aggro'd the Core Hound as he was coming down the ledge. I accidentally pulled another Core Hound that was behind me coming out of the tunnel. My advice is to be well stocked on buff items because you might die more times than you expect to and to not use them until you're sure you're in the right spot to tame.
That way you haven't wasted them when a mob gets you. To take as little damage as possible from the giants at the start and the lava you have to swim through, a fire resistance pot and Deterrence are your best friends.
However, through my own trials, I found that it was more successful to use Potion of Speed while you're taming rather than a fire resistance pot. Your mileage may vary. Comment by where do you find them? Comment by CycloneDuke Linking to those who came here looking for the new 3. This page here is about the hunter pet, the one I just linked is for the companion.
Comment by where can u tame one at? Im a lvl 14 night elf hunter and her name is Traciie. Comment by Hey, just to let you know, I am currently a BM hunter at level 69 now, and I dont know about you guys, but my cunning pets do way more dps than ferocity pets now due to the Wolverine Bite cunning pets can now get. I tested out a couple of cunning pets, and the ones that seem to the most damage is the Nether Ray, and its strange because its CD on its ability is 28 seconds.
Strangely enough my Sporebat is one of my highest DPS pets, then followed by the Chimaera and then my raptor which is my backup pet if the boss does alot of damage to pets. So I guess since the change on Wolverine Bite, I see cunning pets the 1 on dps again, but ferocity not much behind. Comment by I love my core hound, but what would make it even better would be to be able to use them as a cooking fire! Comment by OverlordAxefury ive got all three core hounds all in same day at 72 i just had a lvl 80 priest from my guild bubble me n fear ward me n it was easy on mc hound and after i tamed him n set his talent he tanked some mc mobs lmao thx to priest heals ofcourse.
Comment by Ristaina New and improved with cata, with this guy you can bring your raid Bloodlust! Comment by Benegesserit Mages are getting trolled pretty hard by this pet getting this spell and their max level spell being the same thing. The Beast will lose his boss tag but the two new guys have it! It has red flames on its back. Comment by viva Once you go core hound you just don't go back.
Comment by WorldsEndTavern Chromaggus can be tamed. Yeah, that guy. The one that wiped your raid. Now you can wipe other peoples raids. Sadly he does not turn raid bosses into dragonkin to kill things. Or freeze people. Yeah, no curses at all. Just Chromaggus. The guy that wiped you. Core hounds grow and gain power throughout their lives. A core hound is a giant twin-headed, quadrupedal elemental lava monster that originates in the Firelands of the Elemental Plane , and also live in the Molten Core [1] MG The largest is known is Magmadar , and Golemagg the Incinerator seems to treat them as pets.
There is also a small captured one in upper Blackrock Spire known as The Beast , who has swallowed gnome explorer Finkle Einhorn. Their leather, Core Leather , is greatly prized for making high-end items. Though hunters can respec their pet core hounds into Cunning or Tenacity, they are inherently Ferocity.
In addition to the abilities that come standard with all pets [Growl] and [Avoidance] and those given to their natural or retrained specialization , all core hounds are given the following:.
